Letters From a Healing Heart

There are some things I find easier to write than to say.

There are feelings I can carry for months without knowing how to explain them. Words I rehearse in my head but never say out loud. Conversations I wish had ended differently. Goodbyes I wasn’t ready for. Memories I thought I had moved past, only to find them waiting for me on an ordinary Tuesday afternoon.

So I write.

I write because sometimes my heart understands itself better on paper.

These are letters I may never send. They are letters to the people I have loved, the moments I have lost, and most importantly, to the different versions of myself I have met along the way.

These are letters from my healing heart.

Dear You,

I still remember you.

I wish I could say that I don’t, that enough time has passed and everything feels distant now. But that wouldn’t be completely true.

There are still moments when something reminds me of you.

A song.

A familiar place.

A particular time of day.

Sometimes it is something as simple as a thought that arrives without warning.

For a long time, I hated that.

I thought remembering you meant I hadn’t healed.

I thought moving on meant forgetting everything.

But I’m slowly learning that I can remember someone without wanting them back.

I can miss what we had without wanting to return to it.

I can appreciate the memories without building my life around them.

You were a part of my life. A meaningful one.

And I don’t need to pretend that you weren’t just because you’re no longer here.

I am learning to hold the memories differently now.

Not as something I need to run from, but as something that happened.

Something that mattered.

Something that shaped me.

But not something that gets to decide where I go next.

I think that’s what letting go has meant for me.

Not forgetting you.

Just finally choosing myself alongside the memories.

–From me, learning to let go.

Dear Old Me,

I owe you an apology.

I spent so much time blaming you for things you didn’t know how to handle.

I called you weak when you were exhausted.

I called you foolish for loving people deeply.

I questioned your decisions because I knew how everything turned out.

But you didn’t.

You were living those moments without knowing the ending.

You didn’t know who would stay.

You didn’t know who would leave.

You didn’t know which relationships would change you.

You didn’t know which goodbyes you would eventually have to learn to accept.

You were simply trying to find your way.

And I don’t want to judge you for that anymore.

I want to forgive you.

I want to thank you for making it through the days you thought would never end.

I want to thank you for continuing to believe in people even after being disappointed.

I want to thank you for holding on until you were finally ready to let go.

You weren’t foolish.

You were human.

And I think I understand you a little better now.

– With love, from the person I’m becoming.

Dear My Heart,

I know you’re tired.

I know you’ve spent countless nights replaying conversations and wondering what you could have done differently.

I know you’ve asked questions that never received answers.

Was I enough?

Could I have done something differently?

Why did it have to end this way?

I’ve carried these questions for longer than I want to admit.

But I’m beginning to understand that not every question has an answer waiting for me.

Sometimes things end without giving us the closure we wanted.

Sometimes people leave without explaining everything.

Sometimes I have to create my own closure by accepting that I may never fully understand.

And I’m learning that acceptance doesn’t mean I approve of everything that happened.

It simply means I’m tired of fighting reality.

I cannot change the past.

I cannot rewrite conversations.

I cannot make someone choose differently.

But I can choose what I do with everything that happened.

And I choose to heal.

Slowly.

Imperfectly.

But honestly.

So, heart, you can rest now.

You don’t have to solve everything tonight.

– I’m learning to listen to you.

Dear Future Me,

I wonder where you are when you read this.

I wonder if life feels lighter.

I wonder if you still think about the things that once consumed you.

I hope you’ve found reasons to laugh again.

I hope you’ve discovered parts of yourself that you had forgotten.

I hope you wake up some mornings without carrying yesterday with you.

I hope you’ve stopped wondering whether you’re behind in life.

And if you’re still healing, I hope you don’t judge yourself for it.

I hope you remember that healing never had a deadline.

Maybe you still have difficult days.

Maybe certain memories still make you emotional.

Maybe there are still things you don’t understand.

That’s okay.

I hope you recognise progress in the small things.

The day you stopped checking.

The day you chose not to go back.

The day you finally said no.

The day you laughed and realised you hadn’t thought about the past for hours.

The day you looked at yourself and realised you were beginning to feel like yourself again.

I hope you notice those moments.

Because they matter.

– From the version of me who is still finding her way.

Dear Person Who Hurt Me,

I spent a long time being angry.

Sometimes I was angry at you.

Sometimes I was angry at myself.

Sometimes I was simply angry that things didn’t turn out the way I had imagined.

I kept thinking about what I deserved to hear.

The apology I wanted.

The explanation I needed.

The conversation I wished we could have.

But eventually, I realised something.

I cannot keep waiting for another person to give me the closure I need in order to move forward.

Maybe I will never hear the words I wanted to hear.

Maybe I will never completely understand why things happened the way they did.

But I don’t want my healing to depend on that anymore.

So I’m letting go.

Not because what happened didn’t matter.

It did.

It hurt.

But I don’t want to carry that hurt into every new chapter of my life.

I don’t want something that ended in my past to keep taking space in my present.

I don’t know if I’ll ever completely forget what happened.

But I know I can stop letting it define me.

And for me, that’s enough.

– I’m choosing peace over another explanation.

Dear Me,

I used to think healing meant becoming the person I was before I got hurt.

Now I don’t think that’s possible.

And perhaps I don’t want it to be.

I have changed.

Some experiences changed me.

Some people changed me.

Some goodbyes changed me.

Some disappointments taught me things I couldn’t have learned any other way.

I know more about myself now.

I know what I need.

I know what I cannot accept anymore.

I know that loving someone doesn’t mean abandoning myself.

I know that being alone for a while isn’t the same as being unwanted.

I know that letting go doesn’t mean something wasn’t important.

And I know that I don’t have to become who I was before.

I can become someone new.

Someone softer, but wiser.

Someone who still believes in love but also believes in boundaries.

Someone who can care deeply without losing herself.

Someone who knows how to sit with her own feelings without being afraid of them.

Maybe that’s what healing is.

Not becoming who I used to be.

But learning to love who I am becoming.

The Last Letter

Dear heart,

I know you wanted some things to last forever.

I know you held on because they mattered.

I know there are still moments when you wonder what could have been.

But look at you.

You’re still here.

You’re still trying.

You’re still learning.

You’re still finding little reasons to hope.

Maybe I don’t have to know exactly where life is taking me.

Maybe I don’t have to have all the answers.

Maybe I can simply trust myself to take the next step when I’m ready.

I’ve spent enough time believing that healing means becoming untouched by pain.

Now I know better.

I can hurt and still heal.

I can miss someone and still move forward.

I can remember without returning.

I can love someone and still choose myself.

I can have difficult days without believing I’ve lost all my progress.

And perhaps the most important thing I’ve learned is this:

I am not broken because I am still healing.

I am simply human.

I am becoming.

And somewhere between everything I’ve lost, everything I’ve learned, and everything I am still discovering, I am finally finding my way back to myself.

Maybe these letters were never meant for anyone else.

Maybe I needed to write them because, for the first time, I needed to hear my own heart.

And maybe that’s where my healing truly began.
